Comeback is for naught as Islanders hand Wild first home loss — Fargo Schools news

After a very good road trip, there were few comforts of home for the Minnesota Wild. A promising start slipped away on Thursday night in St. Paul, as the New York Islanders used special teams dominance to grab a 4-3 overtime win at Grand Casino Arena. Matthew Schaffer scored his second goal of the game in the extra session for the Islanders, who stifled three Wild power plays and handed Minnesota its first home loss of the season. Joel Eriksson Ek, Quinn Hughes and Matt Boldy scored for the Wild. Jesper Wallstedt had 22 saves for Minnesota, which had gone 3-1-1 on the just-concluded road trip, but stumbled in the final home game of the month. They Wild finish the month with a 9-3-3 record. I don t think it was the cleanest game by us, but I did like that we stuck with it, came from behind, Wild coach John Hynes said, after his team managed a point after trailing 2-1 and 3-2. I think we didn t have our A game tonight but we gave ourselves a chance to win the game.
